SKRIPSI THE IMPACT OF THE STUDENTS’ SELF-REGULATED LEARNING ON ENGLISH SUBJECT AT SMA NEGERI 7 PURWOREJO

English has become one of the subjects learned in Indonesia; students learn English since they are in lementary school as a foreign language. Besides learning English at school, many students learn English independently by watching English videos, movies, or songs. Students’ self-regulated learning play important role when learning independently. Self-regulated learning requires the students to gain knowledge on their own. Self-regulated learning means that the students have essential roles in their learning and their motivation in learning. Therefore, in SMA Negeri 7 Purworejo, self-regulated learning still often appear when learning English. In this study, the writer intended to know the students’ level of self-regulated learning in learning English and the problems they experienced during regulated their learning. The writer used the questionnaire to know the students level and semistructured interview to know the problems experienced by the students when regulating their learning in learning English. The subjects of this study were 130 students of the twelfth grader of SMA Negeri 7 Purworejo. The result of this study showed that 104 students were categorized having high level of self-regulated learning in learning English, 24 students had moderate level, and 2 students had low level of self-regulated learning. The other result, the writer found problems experienced by the students and mostly were vocabulary and grammar, and other problems such as less interaction using English in communication, challenge to understand words from people with different accents, needing more time to understand the material delivered by the teacher, and often stuttering when reading and speaking.
