Writing is an essential skill that students must master. For vocational school students, it is necessary to practice writing skills related to their major of study to prepare for their career. In learning writing skill, descriptive text is one genre taught to practice the students' writing skill. Students are expected to write a descriptive text about the financial statement related to their major. Nevertheless, during preliminary research in the Accounting and Financial Institution major of SMK Negeri 1 Windusari, it was found that they still struggled when writing descriptive text.
This study was designed to determine whether using Boomwriter as the teaching medium can increase the students' learning motivation and writing skill for the eleventh graders of SMK Negeri 1 Windusari. The writer completed a Classroom Action Research with two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of the study was 33 students majoring in Accounting and Financial Institution at SMK Negeri 1 Windusari. The writer gathered the data through observations, questionnaires, and tests. The result of the study shows that the use of Boomwriter increases the students' writing skills and improves their learning motivation. The observation data reached 75%, and the questionnaire results reached 85%, which indicates a very high motivation level. Likewise, the students' writing scores reached 84,69, which shows good writing skill, and more than 75% of them passed the minimum mastery criteria. Based on the result and data analysis, using Boomwriter to teach writing skill is suggested.
