SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF K.I.M STRATEGY USING ANAGRAMS TO IMPROVE THE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE 7-TH GRADERS OF SMP N 2 MERTOYUDAN
Vocabulary mastery is an important aspect of learning English, covering reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Despite its importance, many students still face challenges in acquiring vocabulary due to the lack of engaging learning
strategies. To address this issue, this research investigates the effectiveness of the K.I.M Strategy integrated with Anagrams activities in improving the vocabulary mastery of the seventh-graders of SMP N 2 Mertoyudan. It also examined whether there was a statistically significant difference between students taught using this strategy and those taught using the K.I.M Strategy combined with Flashcards. This study used a quasi-experimental approach, using a pre-test and post-test design involving two groups. The sample included 64 students, with one class designated as the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group received instruction through the K.I.M Strategy with Anagrams, while the control group used the K.I.M Strategy with Flashcards. Data were collected through vocabulary tests before and analyzed using an independent sample t-test and effect size calculation. The results showed that the experimental group’s mean score increased from 66.72 to 78.59, while the control group improved from 64.22to 72.03. The independent sample t-test revealed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Furthermore, the effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.858) was categorized as large. In conclusion, the K.I.M Strategy withAnagramsis effective to improve vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students. This strategy supports better retention and understanding of vocabulary and enhances student engagement and motivation. As such, it holds potential as an innovative alternative for vocabulary instruction at the junior high school.
