SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GIMKIT LEARNING MEDIA TO INCREASE STUDENTS’ NARRATIVE TEXT READING COMPREHENSION FOR THE EIGHTH GRADERS OF SMPN 2 MERTOYUDAN
Reading comprehension is essential for learning English, especially for understanding narrative texts. However, many students struggle to comprehend texts due to low engagement and interactive learning media. Interactive learning
media such as Gimkit can make the learning experience more engaging and motivating. Gimkit is a game-based learning platform that allows students to improve their reading comprehension in a fun and interactive way. This study aimed to determine whether there was a significant difference in reading comprehension between students taught using Gimkit and those taught using Quizizz. This study also investigated the measurement of Gimkit’s effect on increasing students’ narrative text reading comprehension. This study used a quasi-experimental design, a pre-test, and a post-test. The population consisted of 224 students of SMPN 2 Mertoyudan who were in grade eight and participated in this study in the academic year 2024/2025, divided into
seven classes. The sample consisted of two classes, 8A as the experimental class and 8B as the control class. The purposive sampling process was used to select the two classes; one was chosen as the experimental group, and the other was selected
as the control group. While the experimental group was taught with Gimkit, the control group used Quizizz, a media commonly used by teachers. Data were analyzed using effect size calculation, independent sample t-test, and reading comprehension test.
