SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING (CPS) MODEL TOWARD THE EIGHTH GRADERS’ WRITING SKILL OF RECOUNT TEXT
Writing is one of the four English skill that students must learn because it is a communication process about how a person expresses ideas and conveys messages and thoughts in written form. However, many students still have difficulties in writing especially recount text. The Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model encourages students to think critically and creatively and be active in solving problems. This study aims to determine whether the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model can improve the writing skill of recount text of grade VIII students at SMPN 6 Magelang. This research used a quantitative method with an experimental design. The sample consisted of 64 students of grade VIII who were divided into two different classes. The instruments used to collect data were a pretest and a posttest. The results can be seen from the pre-test and post-test scores in the experimental class and the control class. Based on the results of the findings and discussion, there is an increase in learning outcomes in writing skill of recount text through the implementation of the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model. The average N-Gain value of the experimental group was in the moderate category (0.32 ≤ g < 0.70). The t-test results showed the
significance value (2-tailed) in the experimental group (0.001) < the significance level (α) = 0.05. The test results show that H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted, which means that there is a significant difference between the mean scores before treatment (pre-test) and after treatment (post-test).
