SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF DEIXIS IN STUDENTS’ WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE AT MAN KOTA MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2024/2025

Deixis is one of the components in writing that plays an important role in the development of a text including narrative text. In a narrative text, deixis has a correlation as a linguistic element that refers to the context to understand its meaning. This study analyzed deixis use in students’ narrative text of the eleventh grade at MAN Kota Magelang in the school year 2024/2025. Based on the writer observation, the students’ faced several problems, which one of them is the paragraphs problems in narrative texts which ideas are not well connected due to the limited used of reference words or deixis. In addition, students also used excessive pronouns in terms of personal deixis, which reduced the quality of narrative written texts. This study aimsisto identify the kinds of deixis found in narrative texts written and to find out the most dominantly types of deixis. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative with eleventh grade of Ilmu Bahasa dan Budaya specifically XI IBB as the sample of the research. In addition, to reduce bias the writer triangulated the validators by using two lecturers from Universitas Tidar who have a bachelor's degree in linguistics. The result shows that 33 students' narrative written text contain the type of deixis they are personal deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, social deixis, discourse deixis. However, some of them do not complete for deixis type especially social deixis and discourse deixis. The data findings are Personal Deixis 349 (41.85%), Spatial Deixis 124 (14.87%), Temporal Deixis 136 (16.31%) Social Deixis 143 (17.15%), and Discourse Deixis 82 (9.83%). With the frequency results, it shows that the most dominant types of deixis are personal deixis with a total of 349 (41.85%). It can be concluded that deixis functions as a significant linguistic element in narrative, enabling the creation of vivid imagery, the establishment of character relationship, and the communication on subtle nuances of meaning. Therefore, the writer suggests that teacher and students’ should pay more attention to the use of reference words when writing text especially narrative text.
