SKRIPSI INCREASING THE TENTH GRADERS’ LISTENING SKILL ON RECOUNT TEXT USING AUTHENTIC LISTENING TASK
Listening skill are one of the most important skills anyone can have, because
children listen first, then start speaking, speak before reading, and finally write after
reading (Buayaban, 2021). However, many students still find it difficult to
understand spoken English, especially when it involves native speaker
pronunciation and accent.
This research was conducted using Classroom Action Research (CAR)
methodology, which consisted of two cycles, each including four stages: planning,
acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subjects were the tenth graders of X
3 SMA Tarakanita Magelang, totalling 34 students. The data were collected through
listening tests, observation sheets, interview, and documentation
more familiar with real English usage.
The findings showed an increasing in the students’ listening skill after the
implementation of Authentic Listening Tasks. In the pre-cycle stage, the students’
average test score was 53, which was categorized as “poor.†The observations
indicated that students were passive, unmotivated, and had difficulty following
listening activities. In Cycle I, the average test score increased to 64.4, categorized
as “fair.†Students began to show better concentration and started to participate
more actively in the class by responding to questions and showing interest during
listening activities. The use of authentic materials in this stage helped them become
