SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GALLERY WALK STRATEGY USING CUE CARD TO TEACH SPEAKING SKILLS RECOUNT TEXT FOR THE 8TH GRADERS AT MTS NEGERI 2 KOTA MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2024/2025
Speaking is a fundamental skill in language learning, enabling individuals to convey thoughts, ideas, and emotions. Despite its importance, many EFL students face challenges in speaking English, often due to limited vocabulary and lack of confidence. To address these issues, Brown (2001) suggests that teachers implement engaging techniques to encourage student expression. This study investigated the effectiveness of the Gallery Walk strategy using cue cards in teaching speaking skills for recount text to 8th-grade students at MTs Negeri 2 Kota Magelang in the 2024/2025 school year. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design involving two groups: an experimental class (VIII C with 32 students) taught using the gallery walk strategy using cue card and a control class (VIII B with 31 students) taught using a modeled teaching strategy with written instruction. Data was collected through pre-tests and post-tests administered to both groups. The N-Gain score for the experimental class was 0.3286, indicating moderate effectiveness. In contrast, the control class had an N-Gain score of 0.0998, categorized as low effectiveness. Furthermore, statistical hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups. The significance (2- tailed) value was 0.018, which is less than 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This demonstrates a significant difference in fostering students' speaking skills between those taught with the Gallery Walk strategy using cue cards and those taught with the modeled teaching strategy. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the Gallery Walk strategy using cue cards is more effective in improving the speaking skills of 8th-grade students at MTs Negeri 2 Kota Magelang compared to the modeled teaching strategy. The study suggests that teachers consider integrating the Gallery Walk strategy with cue cards to enhance students' speaking skills.
