SKRIPSI IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ REPORT TEXT WRITING SKILL THROUGH DIGITAL FLASHCARD BY ASSEMBLER EDU FOR THE NINTH GRADERS AT SMP NEGERI 2 MERTOYUDAN
English was recognized as a global language and was taught as a foreign language in Indonesia. This global status influenced various sectors, particularly the educational field. In Indonesia, English is included as one of the subjects in schools. In English language teaching, four major skills were emphasized that is listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Among these, writing was considered the most complex skill, as it required students to master grammar, vocabulary, and organization of ideas simultaneously. Students were introduced to various types of texts, including report texts, to develop writing proficiency. However, the complexity of writing posed significant challenges for many students, making it difficult for them to express their ideas effectively in written form. The students of Class IX A also encountered this issue at SMP Negeri 2 Mertoyudan, who struggled particularly with writing report texts. The problem was evident from their low writing scores, as well as observations made during the PLP II program and feedback provided by English teachers. This study aimed to help the students of Class IX A at SMP Negeri 2 Mertoyudan improve their report text writing skills by using digital flashcards as a learning medium. The writer used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, with 32 students from Class IX A as the research subjects. The instruments used in this study included tests, observation sheets, interviews, and documentation. The research was conducted in several stages: pre-cycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2. The results of this study obtained the average score of each cycle, namely 64.34 in the pre-cycle, 71.78 in cycle 1, and 77 in cycle 2. The average score in cycle 2 is included in the fair category, with more than 75% of students meeting the minimum completeness criteria (KKM). Another finding showed that using digital flashcards also increased students’ activeness during the learning and writing process, with more than 78% of students demonstrating active participation. Based on these results, it was concluded that using digital flashcards could enhance students’ report text writing skills and their engagement during the learning process.
