SKRIPSI DEVELOPING “HOSPITALITY ENGLISH MODULE†FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADERS OF HOSPITALITY PROGRAM AT VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
English for Hospitality is a branch of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) designed
to meet the communication needs of the hospitality sector. As this industry often
involves interaction with guests from different countries, English proficiency is
essential for effective communication. Despite its importance, many employees in
this field still struggle to understand foreign guests, especially when they speak too
quickly, due to limited English skills. To address this issue, vocational high schools
aim to equip students with the technical skills and professional competencies
required in specialized fields. Nevertheless, the curriculum used in the hospitality
program at SMKN 3 Magelang still focuses on general English material and does
not provide additional materials that are specifically tailored to the needs of
hospitality students. As a result, the learning process lacks relevance to the student’s
vocational field.
This study aimed to develop a Hospitality English module for the eleventh
graders of the hospitality program at SMKN 3 Magelang in the school year
2024/2025. In developing the module, the writer focused on listening and speaking
skills. In addition, the module consisted of four main topics: 1) Introduction to
Hospitality, 2) Front Office, 3) Food and Beverage, and 4) Housekeeping.
