SKRIPSI AN INVESTIGATION OF INTEGRATING THE DISCOVERY LEARNING METHOD IN TEACHING WRITING ADVERTISEMENT TEXT BY THE ENGLISH TEACHER OF THE 8TH GRADERS OF SMP N 7 MAGELANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025
Writing is a challenging skill for EFL learners; however, all learners, especially EFL learners, must learn how to write. Students' struggles with writing highlight how crucial it is to use appropriate and efficient methods to teach. One of the best teaching methods used to assist EFL students in developing their writing abilities is the discovery learning method. This study aims to find how the discovery learning method is integrated by the English teacher into the teaching and learning process of advertisement text writing skill for the eighth graders and the challenges faced by the teacher during the integration of the method. This research was conducted at SMP N 7 Magelang, with the English teacher and the students of 8E as the subjects. The descriptive qualitative method was applied to describe the data by combining observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation as the data collection technique. The data were analyzed by reducing data, displaying the data, and concluding the data. The results showed that the teacher had already implemented the stages of the discovery learning method, including stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, and generalization. However, the teacher did not do verification stages caused to the limited time. Furthermore, there were three challenges faced by the teacher, such as the lack of students’ ideas, the lack of students’ vocabulary, and limited time. Based on the findings of this study, it could be concluded that the discovery learning method had been integrated well by the English teacher, but there were still challenges faced by the teacher. However, improvements are still needed to make the teaching and learning process more engaging and effective.
