SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING CLASSROOM INTERACTION ON EFL LEARNERS IN DISCUSSION SESSIONS OF EXTENSIVE LISTENING USING FIACS AT UNIVERSITAS TIDAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025
Interaction plays a crucial role in the learning process, especially in English language classrooms. Effective interaction ensures accurate delivery of information and helps avoid misunderstandings, allowing teaching and learning activities to run smoothly. This is particularly essential in discussion sessions, which rely on two-way communication. However, in Extensive Listening classes, verbal interaction tends to be minimal except in discussion sessions. This study aims to analyze how interaction occurs during discussion sessions in the Extensive Listening class and identify the dominant type of interaction. This research employs a qualitative method with a documentation technique by recording discussion sessions in an Extensive Listening class at Universitas Tidar. The data were analyzed using the Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories System (FIACS) to categorize the types of classroom interactions. The findings indicate that Teacher Talk was the most dominant category (62.52%), followed by Student Talk (28.61%), and Silence/Confusion (8.87%). These results suggest that interaction during discussions remains largely teacher-dominated. Based on the findings, it is recommended that teachers incorporate more interactive activities to enhance student participation, and students are encouraged to engage more actively
