SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF PROCESSES IN READING MATERIAL OF 7TH GRADERS ENGLISH TEXTBOOK "ENGLISH FOR NUSANTARA"
Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) defines the transitivity system as a framework for analysing entire clauses, extending beyond the traditional focus on verbs and objects. It plays a significant role in the language learning process, as many texts used in educational contexts are constructed based on principles of transitivity. Clauses are examined regarding who performs an action, what is affected, and associated circumstances such as when, where, why, and how. This analytical system supports teachers in facilitating learners' understanding of grammar and meaning in spoken and written discourse. This study has two main objectives. First, it aims to identify the various types of processes represented in the reading texts of English textbooks entitled "English for Nusantara." Second, it seeks to determine these texts' most frequently used process types. This study employs a qualitative research methodology. This study uses a descriptive approach to examine the reading material within selected textbooks. The data comprised clauses extracted from the texts, which were then analysed according to Halliday's transitivity system, focusing on classifying process types. The results of this study indicate that a total of 159 clauses containing transitivity system classifications were identified in the English for Nusantara textbook reading texts. These clauses represent various process types as defined in Systemic Functional Linguistics. The distribution of process types is as follows: Material Processes account for 53%, Mental Processes for 12%, Relational Processes for 28%, Existential Processes for 4%, and Verbal Processes for 3%, Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Material Processes are the most frequently employed type of process within the reading texts analyze. This suggests a predominant emphasis on actions and events, reflecting the textbook's focus on concrete experiences and observable activities in language use.
