SKRIPSI THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THINK-PAIR-SHARE STRATEGY COMBINED WITH QUIZIZZ MEDIA IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ EXPLANATION TEXT READING COMPREHENSION OF THE 11TH GRADE OF SMAN 5 MAGELANG
The ability of reading comprehension in explanation texts can help students find ideas, author's purpose, detailed information, the meaning of a word in a text, and implied information in a text. However, based on the observation, the researcher found that most of the students' reading comprehension skills were still low. This is influenced by the way teachers teach and students' engagement. Therefore, the researcher provides a solution by applying a strategy combined with media to improve students' reading comprehension skills and students' engagement in explanation texts. The objectives of this study were (1) to reveal the improvement of the eleventh grader’s reading comprehension of explanation text using the Think-Pair-Share strategy combined with Quizizz media at SMAN 5 Magelang. (2) to reveal the improvement of the eleventh grader’s student engagement in reading comprehension of explanation text class using the Think-Pair-Share strategy combined with Quizizz media at SMAN 5 Magelang. This study used a classroom action research (CAR) design. It was conducted in three stages: Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The subjects of this study were 36 11th grade of F-4 students of SMAN 5 Magelang. The researcher used test and nontest to collect the data. The test was a reading comprehension test and the non-test were observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The result of this study showed that the students’ reading comprehension skill were improved using the Think-Pair-Share strategy with Quizizz. The test result improved from Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II. The average score test in Pre-Cycle was 71.67, 84 in Cycle I, and 88.5 in Cycle II. In addition, the result of this implementation increased students’ engagement in reading comprehension. Based on the observation result, there were average score from 12.96% in Pre-Cycle, 61.98% in Cycle I, and 90.07% in Cycle II. Furthermore, the result of questionnaire and interview were also improved.
