SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BILLBOARD RANKING STRATEGY IN TEACHING RECOUNT TEXT WRITING IN THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMAN 3 MAGELANG
This research began with students’ low ability in recount text writing. One of the factors was the difficulty of students in organizing sentences into paragraphs. Billboard Ranking Strategy was used to overcome this problem. Billboard Ranking Strategy is a ranking based learning strategy that involves group discussion activities in set priorities and justifying choices. This strategy is considered capable of increasing active students’ involvement and stimulating students to express and develop ideas. In practice, students work together to rank items on shared visual media, such as a board or paper. This study examined the effectiveness of Billboard Ranking Strategy in improving the ability to write recount texts in the tenth graders of SMAN 3 Magelang. The method used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental group and a control group, where the experimental group was taught using the Billboard Ranking Strategy and the control group was taught using the Question and Answer Strategy. 72 students from a total population of 324 students were obtained as research samples selected by purposive sampling. This research used SPSS software version 25 to analyse pre-test and posttest as the data collection technique. The independent sample t-test showed that this strategy improved students’ recount text writing. This finding was supported by the results of the paired sample t-test which showed a significant increase of 23.36 points in the experimental group compared to 10.80 points in the control group. From the findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Billboard Ranking Strategy has a positive and significant effect on improving students’ recount text writing skills. Therefore, this strategy is recommended as an effective writing learning method because it can encourage students to be more creative and expressive in conveying ideas. The researcher also encourages further researchers to explore this strategy to further education science.
