SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING THE QUALITY OF MULTIPLE-CHOICE ITEMS IN ENGLISH SUMMATIVE TEST DURING THE K13 CURRICULUM AND MERDEKA CURRICULUM: AN ITEM ANALYSIS RESEARCH
This study investigates the quality of multiple-choice items in English summative tests during the implementation of the K13 Curriculum and the Merdeka Curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Mungkid. The research aims to evaluate and compare the test items based on three item analysis criteria: difficulty index, discriminating power, and distractor index. This study used a causal-comparative approach, and the data were collected by analyzing twelfthgrade students' answer sheets from the academic years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025. Furthermore, the ANATES software was utilized to analyze 40 multiple-choice items from each curriculum. The findings revealed that while both test items had their characteristics, the Merdeka Curriculum items generally demonstrated better quality in terms of validity, reliability, discriminating power, and distractor index. The results emphasize the importance of conducting regular item analysis to ensure the effectiveness of summative assessments. Additionally, it was suggested that the quality of teacher-made tests should be maintained and evaluated, especially in a newly emerging curriculum. This research provides valuable insights for teachers and future researchers on preserving the quality of multiplechoice test items in English, particularly at the senior high school level.
