SKRIPSI NEED ANALYSIS IN DEVELOPING DIGITAL SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL IN ACADEMIC READING COURSE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION AT UNIVERSITAS TIDAR

This research is conducted to address several identified problems in the Academic Reading Course for higher education at Universitas Tidar. Currently, a learning material is used in the Academic Reading Course at Universitas Tidar. Therefore, the existing learning material has not fully addressed the students’ individual needs and challenges. The material used also still lacks practical application and real-world relevance in the course materials. Furthermore, supplementary material is needed as students often need additional resources and practice to add to their knowledge. Given the problems discussed earlier, this research is designed with two main objectives. The first objective is to reveal the existing condition of the current learning material in the Academic Reading course for higher education at Universitas Tidar. The second objective is to reveal the target needs and learning needs in developing Digital Supplementary Material in the Academic Reading course for higher education at Universitas Tidar. Furthermore, to address the outlined objectives, this study employs a descriptive case study method with a need analysis design. It aims to explore and understand the perspective of undergraduate students, especially in the Academic Reading course, to discover the existing condition of the current learning material, target needs, and learning needs regarding the development of digital supplementary material. The findings indicate that the current learning material already fulfills some criteria of a good learning material. However, there are still lacks in learning outcomes, authenticity, explanation, and practice related to pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, visual data, engagement, supplementary websites, and guidance. Furthermore, the result also shows a need for interactive digital tools with texts and tasks with short explanations, and applying collaborative work. The data gathered offers future researchers the opportunity to delve deeper into matters related to this case.
