SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING DIFFICULTY INDEX, DISCRIMINATION INDEX AND DISTRACTORS EFFECTIVENESS IN ENGLISH SUMMATIVE TEST IN SMP N 1 SRUMBUNG
Assessment is a crucial component of the teaching and learning process, particularly in evaluating students’ academic achievement. However, many teachers do not analyze the quality of their summative test items. This issue may lead to the use of flawed questions that reduce the reliability and validity of the test. Therefore, conducting item analysis is essential to ensure the fairness and effectiveness of test items used in educational settings. This study aimed to analyze the English summative test for eighth-grade students at SMP N 1 Srumbung in the academic year of 2024/2025. It focused on three main aspects: the difficulty index, discrimination index, and distractor effectiveness of the multiple-choice items. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of each test item and provide recommendations for improving assessment practices. A descriptive quantitative method was used in this research. The data were obtained from 32 students' answer sheets and analyzed using ANATES V4 software, which provided detailed statistical results. The item analysis was conducted based on Classical Test Theory (CTT), evaluating each item’s performance according to standardized psychometric indicators. The results showed that 30% of the items were categorized as difficult, 55% as moderate, and 15% as easy. In terms of discrimination, 15% of the items were excellent, 50% good, 20% satisfactory, and 15% poor. Regarding distractor effectiveness, 83.3% of the distractors functioned effectively, while 16.7% were non-functional. Additionally, the overall test demonstrated high reliability with a coefficient of 0.73. These findings indicate that while most items performed well, some require revision to enhance their quality. This study emphasizes the importance of item analysis in creating valid and reliable assessments and encourages teachers to adopt this practice to support more accurate measurement of student learning outcomes.
