SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GRAMMARLY PLATFORM MEDIA ON STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL OF INTRODUCTION TO ESSAY WRITING CLASSES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Grammarly Platform Media in improving students’ writing skills in the Introduction to Essay Writing class at the English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Tidar. The background of this study focuses on students’ difficulties in writing, such as grammatical errors, writing mechanics (spelling, punctuation, capitalization). This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving two classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. The research instrument consisted of an essay writing test administered both before (pre-test) and after treatment (post-test). The results of data analysis using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests revealed a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class, as well as an increase in learning outcomes in the experimental class following the use of Grammarly. Thus, the use of Grammarly has proven effective in improving the quality of students’ writing, especially in terms of grammar and writing mechanics. This study reveals that lecturers utilize Grammarly as a writing learning aid, while students employ it as a medium for self-reflection in enhancing their academic writing skills.
