SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING FRAYER STRATEGY ON STUDENTS' VOCABULARY MASTERY FOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MAJOR AT VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
The low level of vocabulary mastery among vocational school students, particularly in the field of mechanical engineering, hinders their English language proficiency in a professional context. This study aims to find the significant difference between the experimental group which uses the frayer strategy and the control group which uses the conventional learning strategy on the vocabulary mastery among 10th-grade mechanical engineering students at SMK N 1 Windusari. The study employed a quasi-experimental quantitative design. The sample consisted of two classes, class X TP-1 as the experimental group and X TP-2 as the control group by implementing purposive sampling. Data were collected using the pre-test and post-test then analysed by applying normality test, homogeneity test, independent sample t-test, and n-gain. According to the data analysis results, the Frayer Strategy was effective in helping student vocabulary mastery. The Independent Sample T-test results showed a significance value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. This means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, indicating a significant difference between students taught using the Frayer Strategy and those taught using the conventional class. The Frayer Strategy has proven effective as an innovative approach to vocational vocabulary learning. The researchers recommend applying this strategy in English language classes at vocational high schools. Further research is needed to test its adaptation to receptive skills such as reading.
