Language is the main means for humans to communicate and convey meaning. One of the important aspects in linguistic studies is lexical relations, discussing how words have different types of meaning relations to each other. Previous studies have not specifically analyzed the types of lexical relations and considered their application in educational contexts. On the other hand, most students still have difficulties in differentiating the types of lexical relations conceptually and contextually. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of lexical relations and the most dominant type found in the movie “Beauty and the Beastâ€. The analysis aims to explore the implication in the Introduction to Educational Linguistics course. The analysis are utilized by the writer as a source of learning materials in this course. The utilization of this material is expected to enrich students' understanding in studying lexical relations. This study uses qualitative method. The analysis focuses on the types of lexical relations in the movie dialog based on Palmer's (1981). Data were collected through documentation by watching the movie and using the transcript, and by observation during the implementation of the analysis in classroom learning. The results analysis show there are 37 identified lexical relations, consisting of 11 synonyms, 16 antonyms, 4 hyponyms, 3 polysemies, and 3 homonyms. Based on the analysis, antonym becomes the most dominant type of lexical relation found. The implication of this analysis is that it can be used as learning material in the Introduction to Educational Linguistics course. Its implementation shows that students are actively involved, participate in discussions, and are mostly able to understand several types of lexical relations. This study concludes that lexical relations can be identified in the movie dialog, with antonyms as the most common type found from a total of 37. The implication is that the analysis can be used as learning materials in this course. The writer also compiled a lesson plan as reference for lecturers in planning materials and learning strategies. The study suggests future writers to explore lexical relations in a wider range of sources, to provide greater insight into how word meanings work in various contexts.
