SKRIPSI DEVELOPING MANUAL BOOK FOR EDUCATIONAL SHORT STORY WRITING BASED ON LOCAL FOLKTALE IN CREATIVE WRITING: POETRY AND PROSE COURSE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

Integration of literature into language education can enhance creativity, as seen in creative writing activities. One such activity is writing a short story, which is included in the Creative Writing: Poetry and Prose course at the English Education Department. In this course, students must produce an educational short story based on local folktales. However, many students still face writing difficulties due to a limited understanding of short story elements and techniques. In response to the previously mentioned issue, this development research aims to address three objectives: First, to identify the need to develop a manual book for educational short story writing based on local folktales. Second, to design and develop a manual book for educational short story writing based on local folktales. Third, to measure the practicality of the manual book for educational short story writing based on local folktales. Regarding the development process, this study employs Plomp's (2013) designbased research model. This model consists of three development stages: Preliminary Research, Development or Prototyping Phase, and Assessment Phase. These three stages were conducted in this study to provide comprehensive answers to the objectives. The preliminary phase revealed that students in the Creative Writing: Poetry and Prose course need a manual book that provides structured guidance in writing short stories, particularly in understanding literary elements and writing techniques. Then, the development or prototyping phase resulted in a prototype validated by two experts, showing a material feasibility score of 98.07% and media feasibility of 81.25%, indicating the product is categorized as very worthy. Furthermore, the practicality aspect based on user responses showed a percentage of 87%, while the overall manual book evaluation reached 91%. These results suggest that the developed manual book is practical and beneficial for supporting students in producing short stories based on local folktales
