SKRIPSI THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING USING CANVA MEDIA TO IMPROVE THE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE SEVENTH GRADERS AT SMP N 1 MAGELANG
Vocabulary is a collection of words owned by a person, it is an important skill that supports language skills and language acquisition. Learning vocabulary in a foreign language can be a challenge, so teachers must understand the strategies that best suit the abilities and characteristics of students. Based on preliminary research conducted during the PLP program by the writer at SMP N 1 Magelang. The writer identified several issues, including students' difficulty learning vocabulary in English. This is evidenced by the passing grade for the English subject 75, and around 50% of the students have achieved that score. This means that 50% of the students have not achieved a passing grade. This shows that there are challenges in vocabulary mastery that have an impact on their learning progress Based on the problems above, this study aims to improve the students’ engagement and English vocabulary mastery of class VII G students of SMP N 1 Magelang in the 2024/2025 academic year through the application of Differentiated Learning using Canva digital media. The methodology used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which begins with Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, documentation, and vocabulary mastery tests. The writer found that the use of Differentiated Learning using Canva media can improve the students' vocabulary mastery. The average vocabulary mastery score improved from 66.41% in the Pre-Cycle. After implementing Differentiated Learning using Canva media, the average score of the students in the Cycle I test was 78.84, while in the Cycle II test it reached 90.78. The use of Differentiated Learning using Canva media also makes improvements in the students' engagement. The results of observation, questionnaires, and documentation indicate that the students' engagement in vocabulary learning was good. The result of observation in Pre-Cycle is 48.13% and it becomes 75.64% in Cycle 2. The total improvement is 27.52%. These results indicate that the Differentiated Learning strategy using Canva improves the students' interest, engagement, and learning outcomes in learning English vocabulary.
