SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH TEACHERS’ PEDAGOGICAL COMPETENCE AT MAN 1 MAGELANG IN IMPLEMENTING EFFECTIVE STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING
Pedagogical competence plays a central role in improving the quality of English
teaching, especially under the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum, which
emphasizes student-centered learning. This study explored how pedagogical
competence was demonstrated in classroom practices at MAN 1 Magelang by
focusing on five sub-indicators: structured lesson design, contextual learning,
instructional resources, critical thinking strategies, and ICT adaptation. The
research aimed to identify the implementation level of each sub-indicator and
determine which were most effectively applied in promoting student-centered
learning.
A qualitative method with a grounded theory approach was used. Data were
collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis involving an
English teacher handling multiple classes. The results revealed that instructional
resources, strategies for critical thinking, and ICT use reached the highest level
(Level 5/Mentor), while lesson design was at an intermediate level (Level 3), and
contextual planning remained at the basic level (Level 2). These findings were
supported by direct classroom experience, confirming the teacher’s capacity to
guide peers and innovate using adaptive teaching tools, especially in integrating
digital technologies.
