SKRIPSI IMPROVING STUDENTS' READING ABILITY THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF POSTER SESSION STRATEGY AT THE TENTH-GRADE OF SMK NEGERI 2 TEMANGGUNG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025
Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill that is crucial to students’ academic achievement, particularly in understanding narrative texts. This classroom action research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Poster Session Strategy in improving the reading ability of tenth-grade students at SMK Negeri 2 Temanggung during the academic year 2024/2025. The study was conducted in two cycles and involved 34 Class X Kuliner 2 students. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were gathered through observation, reading comprehension tests, and documentation. The findings revealed a notable improvement in students’ reading performance. Only 13 students (38%) achieved the Minimum Completion Criteria (MCC) in the pre-cycle phase. After implementing the Poster Session Strategy in Cycle I, this number increased to 21 students (61%). Further progress was observed in Cycle II, where 31 students (91%) successfully met the MCC. These results demonstrate that the Poster Session Strategy significantly enhanced students’ reading comprehension and engagement in classroom activities. In light of these findings, it is recommended that English teachers consider implementing the Poster Session Strategy as an alternative method for teaching narrative texts in vocational school settings. Future researchers are encouraged to explore the application of this strategy in various educational contexts, text genres, or subject areas to investigate its effectiveness and adaptability further.
