SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING BOOKWIDGETS AS A LEARNING MEDIA TO IMPROVE THE 11TH GRADERS' NARRATIVE TEXT READING COMPREHENSION AT SMAN 1 DUKUN IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2024/2025
Reading comprehension in English is a fundamental skill that enables students to
access, understand, and interpret various types of information and concepts encountered
during the learning process. It plays a crucial role in supporting students’ academic success,
particularly in language learning. Therefore, students are expected to develop strong
reading comprehension abilities to help them engage with texts more effectively. However,
in reality, many high school students continue to face challenges in reading, such as limited
vocabulary mastery, difficulty understanding text structures, low motivation, and a lack of
appropriate learning strategies. These challenges often result in poor reading performance.
To overcome these issues, the use of interactive and engaging learning media has been
increasingly recommended. BookWidgets is a digital learning platform that offers
interactive exercises aimed at enhancing student engagement and supporting the
development of reading comprehension, especially in narrative texts.
The aims of this study are: 1) to examine the significant differences in narrative
text reading comprehension before and after the use of BookWidgets among the eleventh
graders of SMAN 1 Dukun, and 2) to examine the effectiveness of using BookWidgets in
improving the narrative text reading comprehension of the eleventh graders of SMAN 1
Dukun. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with two groups: the
experimental group used BookWidgets as a learning media, while the control group was
taught using conventional learning media. Data were collected through pre-tests and post
tests to measure students’ reading comprehension before and after the treatment.
