THE EFFECTIVENESS OF NUMBER HEAD TOGETHER (NHT) STRATEGY WITH GENIALLY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' PROCEDURE TEXT READING COMPREHENSION
Reading comprehension is vital in learning English, especially for procedural
texts requiring step-by-step instructions. Students must analyze and create
meaning from these texts to support their academic growth and communication
skills. However, challenges such as low motivation and poor comprehension skills
still exist, worsened by repetitive learning strategies and a lack of technology use.
Although the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) strategy and digital tools like
Genially have been shown to boost engagement and understanding, there is no
research on the effectiveness of combining them in junior high schools. This study
examines how integrating NHT and Genially can improve procedural text reading
comprehension among eighth-grade students.
This study uses a quantitative research design with a quasi-experimental
approach. The study population includes 8th-grade students at SMP Negeri 7
Magelang, and purposive sampling was employed to select two classes. Data were
gathered through pre-tests and post-tests as instruments. Data analysis involved
the Mann-Whitney U test and N-Gain analysis to assess the significance and
effectiveness between the two groups. In this research, the experimental group
was taught using NHT with Genially, while the control group received instruction
using NHT with Kahoot.
