SKRIPSI USING LEARNING TOURNAMENT STRATEGY WITH MASTERY PEAK IN QUIZIZZ TO IMPROVE THE TENTH GRADERS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF NARRATIVE TEXT
Reading comprehension is the ability to capture, understand, and interpret
information contained in a written text. This skill is often regarded as one of the
most challenging aspects of language learning, as students are expected to
thoroughly comprehend the content to identify and process the intended
information.
In Class X-4 of SMA Negeri 1 Dukun during the 2024/2025 academic year,
many students still faced difficulties in understanding texts, particularly narrative
texts. These difficulties stemmed from several factors, including limited
vocabulary, complex grammatical structures, and the length of the texts. These
problems were reflected in students’ low reading comprehension scores in the first
semester and were further supported by classroom observation results, which
indicated that most students had not yet met the Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal
(KKM).
This study aims to improve the reading comprehension skills of Class X-4
students by implementing the Learning Tournament Strategy integrated with the
Mastery Peak game mode on the Quizizz platform. The research employed a
Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, with a total of 36 students from Class
X-4 participating as the research subjects. The instruments used in this study
included tests, observation sheets, interviews, and documentation. The research was
conducted in several stages: pre-cycle, cycle 1, and cycle 2.
