SKRIPSI THE CORRELATION BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATIONAL LINGUISTICS COURSE COMPETENCE OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITAS TIDAR
One factor that may influence how well students achieve in education, particularly
in the Introduction to Educational Linguistics course competence is emotional
intelligence. The urgency of this research lies in its potential to enhance teaching
strategies and student outcomes. Understanding the correlation between emotional
intelligence and educational linguistics competence can give insights, teaching
methods, and support systems tailored to students' emotional and academic needs.
In November 2024, the writer interviewed 20 students from the English Education
program at Universitas Tidar who had completed the Introduction to Educational
Linguistics course in their second semester. This course evaluates students’
competence through exams and the writing of scientific papers, which together
determine their final grades. According to the interview results, 70% of students
said they felt stressed, burned out, and unmotivated during the course.
This study employed a quantitative correlational design. Pearson Product
Moment Correlation analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The
test was performed at a significance level of 0.05. The significance (Sig.) value
was 0.281, which is greater than 0.05, and the obtained correlation coefficient
(0.166) was lower than the critical r-value (r-table) of 0.297.
