SKRIPSI ENHANCING LISTENING SKILL IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT THROUGH BINGO CARD LEARNING MEDIA FOR THE 11TH GRADERS OF SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 1 MAGELANG
Listening skill is one of the fundamental aspects of mastering a foreign language such as English. The skill to listen to descriptive text can help students recognize the pronunciation of words in English and gain a deeper understanding of the information they hear. However, many educational sectors have yet to implement training in listening skill, which can hinder students' academic performance. Listening skill often perceived as passive and challenging to master, leading to low student engagement. In response to the issues, this study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method to fulfil two objectives. First, to determine whether the Bingo Card learning media can improve descriptive text listening skill for the 11th grades of Muhammadiyah 1 Magelang. Second, to investigate whether Bingo Card learning media can increase student engagement in the process of learning to listen to descriptive text for the 11th grades of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Magelang.Considering the CAR model, the study followed three stages: PreCycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this study were 27 students in grade 11 IPS 1 at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Magelang. The author used tests, observation sheet, interviews, and documentation to collect the necessary data. The data were analyzed using test and non-test analysis techniques. The results of the analysis stage revealed that students' listening skill in descriptive text improved when teaching was conducted using a Bingo Card learning media. As a result, the test showed significant differences between the Pre-Cycle and Cycles 1 and 2. The average test score obtained in the Pre-Cycle was 61%, Cycle 1 was 63%, and Cycle 2 was 76%. Additionally, learning using Bingo Card learning media increased student engagement by 85.65%, as observed during the learning process. The students also reported that they had become accustomed to listen English language and were actively engaged during the learning process. The students performed significantly better after the implementation. Thus, teaching using a Bingo Card learning media in listening to descriptive text can enhance listening skill and active student engagement.
