SKRIPSI THE IMPLEMENTATION OF REFLECTION IN PRACTICE STRATEGY TO IMPROVE ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILL IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT TO THE SEVENTH GRADERS AT SMP NEGERI 5 MAGELANG
This study aims to improve students’ speaking skill and activeness in descriptive text by using Reflection in Practice as a learning strategy. The research was conducted through classroom action research involving seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Magelang. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques were employed to analyze the data. The result showed an improvement in students’ speaking skill. Their average speaking score increased from 56 to 76, with most students achieving the minimum standard score of 73. Reflection in Practice strategy guided students through the speaking practice and helped the students to improve their speaking skill, especially in the descriptive text. Students also became more active, confident, and brave to express their opinions in front of the class. In addition, the Reflection in Practice strategy also showed improvement in students’ activeness. Students’ average observation sheet result increased from 40% to 76%, with most students being very active at the end of the cycle. Besides that, the results from students’ questionnaires and teacher interviews in Pre-Cycle and Post-Cycle showed that there is an improvement in students’ activeness. It means that the Reflection in Practice strategy helped students to learn and supported their speaking skill. In addition, the Reflection in Practice strategy also makes the learning process more interactive, active, and enjoyable. The writer hoped that this study would be helpful for students, teachers, and future researchers interested in using learning strategies, learning media, and technology to improve students’ speaking skill, especially in the English subject.
