SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING CLASSROOM INTERACTION BETWEEN ENGLISH TEACHER AND STUDENTS IN THE ELEVENTH GRADERS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION
Effective interaction between teachers and students not only supports the delivery
of knowledge but also enhances students’ engagement, motivation, and
understanding. However, in a real classroom environment, especially in English
classes, there are often some challenges such as frequent miscommunication, lack
of student engagement, and teacher-centered teaching. Many students struggle to
comprehend teachers’ messages, leading to misunderstandings and low classroom
interaction. This study aims to investigate the nature and characteristics of
classroom interaction between English teachers and eleventh-grade students at
SMA N 1 Subah, especially in the context of post-pandemic learning and the
implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka. Utilizing the Flanders Interaction
Analysis Categories System (FIACS), the research identifies and categorizes verbal
exchanges that occur during teaching and learning processes to analyze patterns of
communication and classroom dynamics. The study adopts a qualitative descriptive
approach, with data collected through classroom observation and video recordings
of English lessons. These data were then transcribed, coded, and analyzed using a
10×10 interaction matrix based on FIACS categories.
