SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VIDEO-ASSISTED LEARNING USING ENGLISH SUBTITLES IN XII GRADERS' NEWS ITEM TEXT READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS AT SMK CITRA MEDIKA
This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Video-Assisted Learning (VAL) using English subtitles in improving the reading comprehension of news item texts among twelfth-grade students at SMK Citra Medika. The research addressed the issue of low student engagement and comprehension with Modeled teaching strategy. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 70 students divided into an experimental group (N=36) taught with the VAL strategy and a control group (N=34) taught with the Modeled Teaching strategy. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test instruments and were analyzed using descriptive and non-parametric test. The results of the Mann-Whitney U test revealed a significant difference in post-test scores between the two groups (p < .05). Furthermore, the N-Gain analysis showed that the experimental group achieved a 'High' level of effectiveness with an average score of 73.50%. In contrast, the control group achieved a 'Medium' level of effectiveness with a score of 51.06%. This study concludes that the Video-Assisted Learning strategy with English subtitles is a highly effective method for enhancing students' reading comprehension of news item texts compared to the Modeled teaching strategy
