SKRIPSI KEEFEKTIFAN METODE BERMAIN PERAN DALAM PENGAJARAN KETERAMPILAN BERBICARA BAHASA INGGRIS SISWA KELAS VII SMP MA'ARIF BANDONGAN TAHUN PELAJARAN 2006/2007
Speaking is one of the four language skills which is regarded as a complex. Through speaking, students may get interactions with some one else and may get useful information that are needed. However, the students' speaking in SMP Ma'arif Bandongan is low. There are many factors that influence it. One of the factors is the inappropriate method in teaching speaking. To solve the problem, the researcher attempts to use role playing in teaching speaking tp the seventh grade students of SMP Ma'arif in the school year 2006 atau 2007. The purpose of this research is to prove that the use of role playing method in improve speaking skill of the Seventh year students of SMP Ma'arif Bandongan in the school year 2006 atau 2007 and it's more effective than the use of group exercising method.Based on the review of related theories, the researcher would like to propose two hypotheses as follows:
1. There is a different result achieved by students who are taught with role playing method and those who are taught using group exercising method.
2. The role playing method is more effective for teaching speaking than the use of the group exercising method.
To prove the hypotheses, the researcher conducted a research to the seventh year students of SMP Ma'arif Bandongan as the population. There are 90 students. The researcher used the cluster random sampling technique and got 30 students as the experiment group X and got 30 students as the control group Y . They were treated differently, especially in the teaching technique. To get a data, the researcher give the oral test into two groups. The first group, was called the experiment group, treated by using role playing method. The second group. was called the control group, treated by group exercising method in teaching speaking.
The results of the statistical calculations showed that the mean of the experiment group tutup buka 68 tutup kurung was higher than that of the control one tutup buka 62 tutup kurung. While the result of the test was 5.267. It is higher than the figure on the table 2,042 of the significant level of 5 persen.
The researcher draws some conclusions that there is a significant different between the teaching speaking applying role playing method and the group exercising method. Because after the experiment, the result of the test in the post test is 5,267 more than 2,042. Based on the statistical calculation, the result shows that the two groups under analyses have different means. The means of experiment is 68, whereas of the control group is 62. so it can be concluded that role playing method is more effective than the group exercising method in improving the students' speaking skill.
