SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVIENESS OF USING GUESSING GAMES TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING SPEAKING FOR THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 1 KRANGGAN TEMANGGUNG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2005/2006
The Junior High School students speaking ability has not been satisfactory. There are many factors that influence it. The students often find difficulties in expressing their ideas through speaking. Some of them do not know how to express their ideas, whereas some others do not know what they are going to speak and the rest know nothing. This is because the way the teacher treats them is not proper.
The purpose of writing the paper is to prove that the use of guessing games technique in teaching speaking is more effective than the use of question and answer technique. The writer took the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kranggan Temanggung in the school year 2005 2006 as the samples
Based on the above explanation, the writer can assume two hypotheses asmfollows
1. There is a significant difference of the students speaking ability between those who are taught using Guessing Games technique and those who are taught using Question and Answer technique
2. The speaking ability of the students who are taught using Guessing Games technique is better than that of the ones who are taught using Question and Answer technique.
To prove those hypotheses, the writer carried out a research at SMPN 1 Kranggan Temanggung and took the seventh grade students as the population.
The total number of the population was 221 students. The writer took 88 students as the samples which were divided into two groups, they were group A and group B. To get them the writer used cluster random sampling technique in this research and got group A as the experimental group and group B as the control group. Both groups consisted of 44 students, she gave a pre test to both groups. After that she gave different treatments to them. The experimental group was taught using guessing games technique while the control group was taught using question and answer technique. After she gave the treatment in eight meetings, she gave a test as the post test to them. After getting the data, the writer analyzed it using t test and consulted the result to the figure of the t table, to know whether the difference of the mean is significant or not.
The writer found that the result of t-test for the post test of both groups is 2.5937, while t table with the degree of freedom of N 2 on 88 2 86 is 2.021. It means that the result of the t test is more than the t table. Thus the writer's hypotheses are proved true and can be accepted
