SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HOMEWORK HEARING TECHNIQUE IN IMHE SPEAKING SKIL OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 3 MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2004/2005
In teaching English, speaking is one of the four language skills that should be taught effectively to the Vocational School students. The students have not been able to use English as a means of communication for giving questions and opinions. They often get difficulties in mastering pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. To solve the problem, the researcher attempts to use Homework Hearing Technique in teaching speaking.
The purpose of doing this research is to prove that the use of Homework Hearing Technique in teaching speaking is more effective than the use of Question and Answer Technique.
By reviewing related theories, the researcher can assume two hypotheses as follows
1. The students whose teacher uses the Homework Hearing Technique have better speaking ability than the students whose teacher uses the Question and Answer Technique.
2. There is a significant difference in the students' speaking ability between those who are taught using the Homework Hearing Technique and those who are taught using the Question and Answer Technique.
The reseacher took 80 students of the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 3 Magelang. He used the cluster sampling technique and got group A as the experimental group and group B as the control group. Each group consists of 40 students. Before the experiment, he gave pre-test to both groups. After giving the treatments in six meetings he gave a post test.
After carrying out the research, the researcher analyzed the result of the t-test and consulted to the t table, to know whether the difference of the mean was significant or not. He found that the t test on post tests of both group was 3.769. While the t table with the degree of freedom N2 or 802 78 at the significant level of 5 percent was 1.986. It means that the result of the t test is more than the one on the t table. Thus, the researchers hypotheses proved true and can be accepted. Besides that, the mean score on post test speaking ability of the students who were taught by the Homework Hearing Technique is 6.68 and those who were taught by the Question and Answer Technique is 6.29. They show that the students who were taught by the Homework Hearing Technique have better speaking ability that those who were taught by the Question and Answer Technique.
Based on the result above, the researcher draws some conclusions that using Homework Hearing Technique is effective to improve the speaking skill especially for the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Magelang in the school year 2004 2005.
