SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE LIST-GROUP-LABEL LESSON IN TEACHING VOCABULARY TO THE FIFTH GRADERS OF SD REJOWINANGUN UTARA 1 MAGELANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2002/2003
The purpose of writing this paper is to prove that the use of The List Group Label Lesson in teaching vocabulary is more effective than Feature Analysis. The writer took the fifth graders of SD Rejowinangun Utara 1 Magelang in the School Year 2002 2003 as samples. There are 38 students, 14 girls and 24 boys. The English teaching in elementary schools is to introduce English as a foreign language to the elementary graders. The students are expected to be able to master English well. The first step that should be taken is teaching them some words in English, such as names of things in the classroom, the house, and things in their surroundings. In other words, they should be taught English vocabulary first. It is very important because English vocabulary is a bridge to know and master English.
English as a local content for the elementary students should be taught using an interesting technique, so that they will not feel bored. The implementation of teaching English in elementary school should be fitted with the students characteristics. The Elementary school students are young learners who like doing things, playing games, and singing songs. The main objective of English lessons in the elementary schools is to enable students to know a foreign language besides their native and national languages.
There are some techniques in teaching vocabulary. One of them is List Group Label Lesson. The List Group Label Lesson is a technique used to build and expand on what students know about the topic, and helps them organize the knowledge. It involves the students during teaching learning process by naming and grouping the words related with to the topic properly.
The writer implemented The List Group Label Lesson in class. She also used Feature analysis to compare with. Feature Analysis is a teaching technique to improve vocabulary by categorizing words. She wanted to know whether there was a significant difference between the results of vocabulary mastery of the students who taught using The List Group Label Lesson and Feature Analysis. She put forward two hypotheses as follows first, the students who were taught by The List Group Label Lesson experiment group have better result in mastering vocabulary than the students who were taught by Feature Analysis control group. Second, there is a significant difference in mastering vocabulary between the two groups.
The writer used comparative method to prove her hypotheses. She collected the data of students English score from documentation. She carried out the experiment and gave tests to the students. Then she compared the results between the two groups after giving different treatments. She took the fifth graders of SD Rejowinangun Utara 1 Magelang in the school year 2002 2003 as samples. There were 38 students, 14 girls and 24 boys.
