SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HOT SEAT STRATEGY IN IMPROVING RECOUNT TEXT SPEAKING SKILL AT EIGHTH GRADERS OF SMPN 3 SECANG
Speaking is a foundational component of English mastery, it often presents a
significant obstacle for students due to lack of confidence and limited practice
opportunities in the classroom. Fostering speaking proficiency is crucial for
students' academic and social success. This study was motivated by the low
speaking ability of eighth-grade students’ at SMPN 3 Secang, specifically in
delivering recount texts, reflected by a low initial average score. To address this
issue, the Hot Seat strategy is proposed as an interactive learning for speaking skill
that approach actively engages students in speaking activities by requiring them to
respond spontaneously, think critically, and communicate their ideas confidently.
The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design involving
two groups, the experimental class using the Hot Seat strategy and the control class
using Direct Instruction strategy. Data was collected through a pre-test and post
test administered to both groups. The findings confirmed by the N-Gain score of
0.4420 positioned the strategy’s effectiveness in the "Medium" (Moderate
Effective) category, because the N-Gain value was >0.3. Furthermore, the
Independent Sample t-test Sig. (2-tailed) value of less than 0.001 (p
