SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING ARLOOPA MEDIA TO IMPROVE DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADERS AT SMAN 1 SELOMERTO
This study was initiated by a fundamental problem in descriptive writing, in which
tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Selomerto demonstrated low writing skills. This
deficit was caused by students' difficulties with visualising objects, generating
ideas, and with technical problems such as grammar, vocabulary, and organisation.
The main obstacle also stems from conventional teaching media, which are
dominated by non-interactive media such as pictures. This medium has proven to
be unmotivating and unable to provide the visual stimuli students need to produce
in-depth, specific descriptions. This phenomenon underscores the need for
innovative learning media.
The study aims to determine whether there is a significant difference
between students taught using Arloopa Media and those taught using pictures, and
to assess the effectiveness of Arloopa Media in improving tenth-grade descriptive
text writing skills at SMAN 1 Selomerto in the 2025/2026 school year.
This study used quantitative research methods with a quasi-experimental
design. The samples were collected of students at SMAN 1 Selomerto using
purposive sampling, with Class X-4 as the Experimental Group and Class X-3 as
the Control Group. The Control Group was taught using Picture media, while the
Experimental Group was taught using Arloopa media. The instrument used was a
pre-test and a post-test, and the results were analysed using SPSS 27.
The data results showed a significant difference between the experimental
and control groups. As evidenced by the Mann-Whitney U test (p=0.000; p < 0.05).
The results also showed that the use of Arloopa media is effective in improving
10th-grade students' descriptive writing skills at SMAN 1 Selomerto. This is
supported by the N-Gain score of the experimental group, which reached 0.41,
placing the improvement in the "moderate" category.
