SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE DIRECT INSTRUCTION METHOD WITH LIVEWORKSHEET TO ENHANCE THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS’ GRAMMAR COMPREHENSION AT SMP N 2 SECANG
Grammar is an important component in English learning that enables students
to form meaningful sentences. However, many students still struggle to understand
grammar. Based on the observation conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Secang, three main
problems were found: students’ difficulty in understanding grammar, lack of variety in
teaching methods, and limited technological facilities. To overcome these problems,
the writer offers the direct instruction method combined with Liveworksheet (paper
form). The direct instruction method provides a structured learning, while
Liveworksheet offers varied exercises and serves as an effective alternative media for
schools with limited technology.
The objectives of this study are to compare students’ grammar comprehension
taught using the direct instruction method with Liveworksheet and the discussion
method, as well to determine the effectiveness of the direct instruction method with
Liveworksheet in enhancing eighth grades’grammar comprehension at SMP N 2
Secang.
This study employed a quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design,
using pre-test and post-test. The participants were 64 eighth graders at SMP N 2
Secang, divided into two classes: the experimental class (32 students using the direct
instruction method with Liveworksheet) and the control class (32 students using the
discussion method).
