SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING QAR STRATEGY WITH JAMBOARD AS LEARNING MEDIA TO IMPROVE EIGHTH GRADERS' NARRATIVE TEXT READING SKILLS IN SMP NEGERI 13 MAGELANG
Reading is a fundamental skill for language learning and academic success. Many
junior high school students struggle with narrative texts due to limited vocabulary,
unfamiliar topics, and difficulty identifying key details. The main challenge is their
inability to fully comprehend narratives, which is exacerbated by unclear text
identification and inconsistent teaching strategies.
This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Question Answer
Relationship (QAR) strategy assisted by Jamboard in improving eighth graders’
reading skills of narrative texts at SMP Negeri 13 Magelang. In addition, this study
also investigated whether there was a statistically significant difference between
students taught using the QAR strategy on Jamboard and students taught using the
Mapping strategy on Jamboard.
This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental
design,
which included two groups: an experimental set instructed
via the Question-Answer Relationship technique alongside Jamboard and a
control set instructed via the Mind Mapping technique alongside Jamboard. The
sample consisted of 62 students selected through purposive random sampling. Data
was collected through pre-tests and post-tests, each consisting of 20 multiple-choice
questions. and analyzed through normality, homogeneity, independent sample t
test, and normalized gain (N-gain).
The results of the study show that the experimental group experienced a
significant increase in reading skiils. The average score increased from 66.56 (pre
test) to 90.19 (post-test), with an N-gain of 72.08%, which is categorized as
moderately effective. On the other hand, the control group's average score increased
slightly from 80.77 to 84.13, with an N-gain of 17.88%, which is categorized as
ineffective. The independent sample t-test confirmed a significant difference
between the two groups (Sig. 2-tailed < 0.001). This research shows that integrating
the right reading strategies with interactive media can promote better understanding
and a more engaging learning environment.
