SKRIPSI IMPROVING STUDENTS' NARRATIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL THROUGH AUTOMATED WRITING EVALUATION (AWE) OF PROWRITINGAID FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADERS AT SMA NEGERI 1 SALAMAN
Writing activities involve the writer as the bearer of the message, the message or content of the writing, the channel or media of the writing, and the reader as the recipient of the message. Although writing is a mandatory skill to master, writing is one of the challenging skills to master. Therefore, the use of Prowritingaid media is expected to improve students’ writing skill in narrative text at eleventh grade. The main objective of this research is to improve students’ ability in writing narrative texts and to enhance their learning motivation through the implementation of ProWritingAid. This study aims to identify the extent to which ProWritingAid assists students in recognizing their writing errors, developing ideas, and increasing engagement during the writing process. This research was conducted through Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of a Pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The participants were 28 students of class XI F1–5 at SMA N 1 Salaman. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, documentation, and tests. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive following data reduction and data display. The students’ writing test results from each cycle were compared to identify improvement in writing performance, while observation sheets and motivation questionnaires were analyzed to determine changes in students’ learning motivation. Quantitative data from writing scores and motivation percentages were also calculated to support the qualitative findings. The result from the observation in the Pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II to determine the improvement in student motivation and behaviour. In the Pre-cycle, the average of student's motivation was 53% or low, in Cycle I, it was 61% or fair, and in Cycle II, it was 76% or high. From the quetionnaire in Cycle I the average score shows 73% in “Fair” category and increased 86% in Cycle II reached “Very Good” category. The test results showed that most students improved their writing on narrative text. The average score in Pre-cycle was 70 or Good, in Cycle I was 72 and still on good category, and in Cycle II was 85 or very good. In conclusion, ProWritingAid media played a positive role in improving both the motivation and writing on eleventh graders. The results from Pre-cycle to Cycle II show clear improvement, with students becoming more motivated and better at understanding narrative texts.
