SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING BAAMBOOZLE TO IMPROVE THE READING COMPREHENSION OF THE EIGHTH GRADERS AT SMP N 4 MAGELANG
Reading comprehension is very crucial for students when reading a passage
because with reading comprehension, students connect directly with the text they
are reading so they can understand the information in the text. However, based on
the researcher's observation, many students did not understand and found it difficult
when given a reading text. They were less interested in reading because teachers
were less creative in developing learning activities in class. This also causes the
eighth graders at SMP N 4 Magelang to feel bored and sleepy in class.
Therefore, this study wants to find out how effective is Baamboozle in
improving the reading comprehension of the eighth graders of SMP N 4 Magelang.
Besides that, the writer also wants to know the significant difference in reading
comprehension between students who use Baamboozle and those who use Quizziz.
The research design for this study was quantitative research and used quasi
experimental research. The population of this research was the eighth graders of
SMP N 4 Magelang for the 2023/2024 academic year, with a total population of
172 students. The research used a simple sampling technique by selecting classes
with the recommendation from the teacher. Class 8C and 8D were chosen as the
research subjects. The researcher collected the data by using pre-test, treatment, and
post-test. For the data analysis, the writer used SPSS 22 to test the normality test,
homogeneity test, and hypothesis test before conducting an independent t-test.
From the results of the post-test conducted, the mean score of students in
the experimental class was 73.60, while students from the control group had a mean
score of 56.81. Both groups experienced an increase, but the mean score of the
experimental group was higher. In conclusion, the use of Baamboozle was effective
on eighth grade students' reading comprehension with evidence from post-test
results from higher experimental classes and with calculated effect sizes indicating
that the results had a large impact. Furthermore, based on the data from the
independent sample t-test, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative
hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant
difference between students taught using Baamboozle and those taught with
Quizziz
