SKRIPSI THE ROLE OF INFLECTIONAL MORPHEMES IN NARRATIVE AND EXPOSITION TEXTS IN TEXTBOOK
The use of inflectional morphemes in narrative and exposition texts in
textbook is crucial for students facing challenges in comprehending functional
grammar because these morphemes act as a link between the form and role of
inflectional morphemes, aiding students in understanding genre and enhancing their
linguistic skills. The objectives of this study are to (1) identify the dominant types of
inflectional morphemes in narrative and exposition texts within textbook and (2)
ascertain the roles of the dominant type of inflectional morphemes in the same texts.
This study focuses on elucidating the types and roles of inflectional morphemes to
enhance the understanding of both teachers and students regarding inflectional
morpheme in texts.
This study implemented descriptive qualitative research. The objects consisted
of three narrative texts and two exposition texts in the textbook. In addition, the
research instrument utilized in this study was the textbook. The data was collected
employing literature analysis.
The findings discovered 582 morphemes, categorized as inflectional
morphemes, with verb inflection in past tense morpheme being the most dominant
type in narrative texts, comprising 197 morphemes or 95.16%. Furthermore, noun
inflection on plural morpheme emerged as the most dominant type in exposition texts,
comprising 121 morphemes or 61.73%. The dominant type of inflectional morpheme
in each text type indicated that the past tense morpheme roles as a tense in narrative
texts, whereas the plural morpheme served as a number in exposition texts.
Understanding the types and roles of inflectional morphemes in narrative and
exposition texts will enhance students‟ capacity to distinguish between text types and
grasp the imparted information. English teachers who comprehend the types and roles
of inflectional morphemes can elucidate their explanation within particular texts.
