SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING PPP TECHNIQUE WITH FLASHCARD TO IMPROVE DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE ELEVENTH GRADERS OF MAN TEMANGGUNG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2025/2026
The teaching of writing depends on the use of appropriate teaching techniques
and learning media to support students in developing ideas and organizing texts
logically. One instructional approach that can be applied in writing classes is the
Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP) technique, particularly when supported by
visual learning aids such as flashcards. This research examines whether the
integration of the PPP technique and flashcard media contributes to the improvement
of students’ descriptive writing skills.
A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two groups: an
experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was taught using the
PPP technique supported by flashcard media, while the control group received
instruction through the same technique using textbook-based materials. The
participants consisted of 70 eleventh-grade students, with 32 students in the
experimental group and 38 students in the control group.
The study was conducted over five instructional sessions, including a pre-test,
two treatment sessions, and a post-test. Students’ writing performance was analyzed
using the N-Gain formula to determine the level of improvement in descriptive
writing skills. The results indicated that the experimental group achieved a mean
N-Gain score of 0.73, which falls into the high category, whereas the control group
obtained a mean N-Gain score of 0.46, categorized as medium.
The findings indicate that the application of flashcard media within the PPP
framework is more effective than the use of textbooks in improving students’
descriptive writing skills. Flashcards provide visual support that helps students
identify descriptive elements, expand vocabulary, and organize ideas in a more
systematic manner. Therefore, the integration of flashcard media into the PPP
technique can be considered an effective alternative for teaching descriptive writing.
