SKRIPSI STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE OF PROJECT BASED LEARNING SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH DRAMA OF 10 GRADERS OF SMA TARAKANITA MAGELANG SCHOOLYEAR 2025/2026

In the field of language teaching, various methods have been used to improve
student learning outcomes, one of which is Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in
speaking instruction. Speaking is an important skill, yet students still face
difficulties despite the implementation of Project-Based Learning. Therefore, this
study was designed as a qualitative study to explore the implementation of Project
Based Learning and students’ perspectives on speaking skill development.
This study examines the implementation process of Project-Based Learning
as well as students’ perspectives on the development of speaking skills through
Project-Based Learning, with the aim of determining students’ participation in the
stages of Project-Based Learning that were implemented, and gaining an in-depth
understanding of students’ perspectives on the development of speaking skills
through Project-Based Learning.
Research findings indicate that the stages of Project-Based Learning were
implemented in a structured manner; however, student participation was not
uniform. Data revealed dynamic participation with a mean score of 2.76, indicating
less than optimal participation at certain stages. From the students’ perspective,
Project-Based Learning is considered beneficial for developing speaking skills,
such as vocabulary and pronunciation, supported by a high mean score of 3.20 for
metacognitive awareness. Nevertheless, students expressed that the process
remained challenging and cumbersome, particularly due to heavy script reliance
and speaking burdens during the production phase.
To achieve these objectives, the data in this study were collected through
observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews to gain a deeper understanding
of the students’ experiences and perspectives. This study is expected to serve as a
basis for evaluation and to assist teachers and other educators in identifying and
implementing Project-Based Learning that better aligns with students’ perspective,
particularly in the development of speaking skills.
