Pri Purwanti (2012): “The Effectiveness of Synectics Technique in Teaching
Writing of Descriptive Text to The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA N 1 Candimulyo In The School Year 2011/2012”. A Paper: Magelag, English Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Tidar University of Magelang.
Writing is one of the four language skills that should be mastered by students of SMA N 1Candimulyo. However the students’ English writing skill of SMA N 1 Candimulyo is still poor. It can be seen from the result of the first semester English writing test. The data indicate that the average of writing skill of the students is 65. This condition is caused by the student’s lack of motivation in writing, they are usually afraid of making mistakes. Beside that, English teachers less variety in using writing technique creatively. The teaching technique should motivate and make the students interested in learning writing. Based on the problems above, the writer tried to apply an appropriate technique in teaching descriptive text writing using synectics technique.
There are two mains objectives of this research. Firstly, it is to know whether there is a significant difference of the students’ ability to write descriptive text between those who are taught using synectics technique and those who are using guided writing technique. Secondly, it is to know whether the eleventh year students of SMA N 1 Candimulyo whose English teacher uses synectics technique have better writing skill than the students whose teacher uses guided writing technique.
The writer took the eleventh year students of SMA N 1 Candimulyo as the population of the research. There were 150 students and they were divided into 5 classes. Each class consists of 25 students. She took 50 students as the samples that were divided into two groups (the experimental group and the control group). She used the random sampling technique and got XI A as the experimental group and XI B as the control group. To collect the data, the writer used pre-test and post-test. To analyze the data the writer used comparative analysis.
The comparative formula of the data analysis was the t-test calculation. The writer found that the t-test result on the post-test was 3.80, while the t-table value with degree of freedom N-2 was 48, at 5% significance level was 2,069. It showed that the result of t-test was higher than the figure in the t-table. Thus, the hypotheses proved true.
