Writing, one of the four language skills, is an important part in the English language teaching, since it extends the students’ critical thinking, and it has many important elements such as grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation. However, the students’ writing skill of MAN Parakan Temanggung is not satisfactory. There are many factors that influence it. One of them is the students’ difficulties in organizing their writing texts.
The purpose of this research is to improve the students’ writing skill using Send-a-Problem technique. There are two main objectives in this research. Firstly, to know whether Send-a-Problem technique can improve the teaching learning process of the writing class of the eleventh graders of MAN Parakan Temanggung in the school year 2012/2013. Secondly, to know whether there is a great improvement of the hortatory exposition text writing skill of the eleventh graders who are taught using Send-a-Problem technique.
The subject of this research is the eleventh graders of MAN Parakan Temanggung in the school year 2012/2013. The writer conducted a classroom action research. It was divided into four phases; they were Pre Cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III. In each Cycle, the writer gave new topics.
There was also a change of the students’ behavior after they were taught using Send-a-Problem technique in writing. In Cycle I it can be concluded that there was a bit of change in that the students were ready to join the teaching-learning writing class using Send-a-Problem technique. But, some students didn’t show their enthusiasm during the teaching-learning process. In Cycle II they liked the activity in this writing class. While, in Cycle III they had better attention and were more active to participate in the class activities and they seemed interested in Send-a-Problem technique which had better steps of study and was easy to understand. The students of the eleventh grade of MAN Parakan Temanggung made an improvement in Cycle I, the students’ average score was 3.41 points and class average score reached 72.94. In Cycle II, the students’ average score improved 3.44 points and the class average score was 76.38. Then, in Cycle III, the students’ average score improved 4.50 points and the class average score was 80.88.
Based on the above result, the writer concludes that Send-a-Problem technique can improve the teaching learning process of the writing class and there is a great improvement of the hortatory exposition text writing skill of the students who are taught using Send-a-Problem technique. So the teacher may apply Send-a-Problem technique to teach their students, especially in writing hortatory exposition texts.
