SKRIPSI USING FROZEN TABLEAU TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE THE NARRATIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF THE SECOND GRADERS OF SMP MA'ARIF BANDONGAN IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2016/2017

One of the skills in English is writing. In relation to this, the result of the Narrative text writing skill of the second graders of SMP Ma’arif Bandongan in the even semester is not satisfying yet. The average score of the Narrative text writing test is 57. The students’ scores are still under the minimum achievement criteria of 70. This condition is caused by both internal and external factors of the students.

The objectives of the research are firstly, to know whether the use of frozen tableau technique can improve the motivation of the second graders of SMP Ma’arif Bandongan in learning narrative text writing, and secondly, to know whether the use of frozen tableau technique can greatly improve the narrative text writing skill of the second graders of SMP Ma’arif Bandongan.

This research is a classroom action research. The setting of the research is class VIIIA of SMP Ma’arif Bandongan in the school year 2016/20017. There are 22 students, consisting of 8 male and 14 female students. In each cycle of this research, the writer used observation, questionnaire, documentation, and a writing test to collect the data. The writer then analyzed the data using both qualitative and quantitative data.

The students of VIIIA of SMP Ma’arif Bandongan in the school year 2016/2017 have high motivation after the writer used frozen tableau technique. The data of the observation and questionnaire show that their participation increased greatly. The percentage average from Pre-Cycle to Cycle II was 42.73%, 63.13%, and 77.72%. The students became highly motivated and active in improving their narrative text writing skill. In term of narrative text writing skill, they made improvement of 17.54 after they got frozen tableau technique. In addition, all of the performance indicators have been successfully answered. The average score of Pre-Cycle test was 58.41. Unfortunately, the average score of Cycle I test was 66.55. had not fulfilled the performance indicator yet. Surprisingly in Cycle II, the students were able to make a satisfying achievement. The students’ average score in the Cycle II was 75. The students’ scores have fulfilled the performance indicator.

Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that the use of frozen tableau technique can greatly improve the motivation of the second graders in learning narrative text writing and their narrative text writing skill.
