SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MEMORY WHEEL GAME IN TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY TO THE FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SD NEGERI BLONDO 1 IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2010/2011

Based on the School Based Curriculum 2006 (KTSP), English is taught in Elementary School. The student of SD Negeri Blondo 1 get difficulties to understand the meaning of the English words because of the lack of students’ motivation in learning English. It can be understood because their societies do not support them to study English, and inappropriate technique in teaching English Vocabulary.
Teaching English in elementary school really needs creative technique to avoid making the students bored. Using creative technique in teaching Vocabulary, the students will enjoy and become interested in learning English. Boring method usually makes the students feels bored. So, the teacher tries to use an exciting method. In this research the writer is interested teaching Vocabulary to young learners using Memory Wheel Game. The writer wants to improve the student’s vocabulary using interesting technique and easy to follow by the students. It is hoped that the students will be more active and get better result in studying English.
The purpose of this research is to prove that the use of “Memory Wheel Game” is more effective than the use of “Right and Wrong Game”. Based on the statement above, the writer assumes two hypotheses as follows:
1. There is significant difference in the students’ English vocabulary mastery between those taught using Memory Wheel Game and those who are taught by using Right and Wrong Game.
2. Teaching vocabulary using Memory Wheel Game more effective than using Right and Wrong Game.
The writer took all of the fifth grade students of SD N Blondo 1 as the population, it consists of 22 students. He divided the students into group A, as experimental group and group B, as control group.
The writer used t-test to analyze the data. He found that t-test result in the post-test of both group is 3.01385. While the t-table scores with degree of freedom N-2 at 5 percent significance level is 2.086. It means that the result of t-test is higher than the score in t-table.
Based on the above result, the writer concludes that there is a significant difference between the students who are taught using Memory Wheel Game and those who are taught using Right and Wrong Game. The writer suggests English teachers to use “Memory Wheel Game” as one of the techniques in teaching English vocabulary.
